Tire Balancing & Road Force done right

A vibration that survives a standard balance is a road-force problem, and that needs a different machine. We measure before we quote, put the whole number in one figure rather than adding fees at the counter, and torque every wheel to the vehicle's own spec on the way out.

  • Out-the-door pricing — tires, mounting, balancing, stems, disposal and tax in one number.
  • Measured, not eyeballed — tread depth on all four corners, and brakes while the wheels are off.
  • Repaired where it can be repaired — a puncture in the tread crown is a patch-plug, not a new tire.
  • Build dates read out loud — the DOT code tells you the week and year, and you hear it before it is mounted.

Balance weight against road force

A standard spin balance finds where a wheel is heavy and adds weight to offset it, and that fixes most vibrations. What it cannot find is a tire that is out of round or a wheel that is slightly bent, because those are not weight problems, they are shape problems. A road-force balancer presses a loaded roller against the tire as it spins and measures the variation the road actually sees. That is the machine that solves the vibration nobody else could fix.

What a vibration tells you by the speed it appears at

A shake that arrives around highway speed and smooths out above or below it is usually wheel balance. A vibration felt through the brake pedal only when stopping points at rotors rather than tires. A shudder that worsens the faster you go and never settles can be a bent wheel or a separated belt inside the tire. Tell us at (463) 282-2987 what speed it happens at and whether you feel it in the seat or the steering wheel, and that narrows it before the car is even on the lift.

Tire Balancing & Road Force questions

How often should tires be balanced?

There is no calendar for it. Balance them when they are mounted, and again if a vibration turns up. Losing a wheel weight, which happens easily on potholes and curbs, is a common reason a shake appears overnight in a car that was smooth the day before.

Is road-force balancing worth the extra cost?

Only if a standard balance did not fix it, and we do not lead with it. If the vibration is still there afterward, the road-force machine is how you find out whether the problem is the tire or the wheel. That answer also decides who pays, because a defective tire may be a warranty claim.

Can a brand new tire be out of round?

Yes. It is not common, but it happens, and it is a manufacturing defect rather than anything you did. Road-force measurement is what documents it, and with that number in hand a warranty claim on the tire is straightforward.
